Why this petition matters

Started by Andrew Moran

The traditional mascot of the GOP party is the elephant. A political cartoon by Thomas Nast, published in Harper's Weekly on November 7, 1874, is considered the first important use of the symbol.

Created by the Media, for the People.

Traditionally the party had no consistent color identity until the 2000 election when the media portrayed the Republicans as "Red" and the Democrats as "Blue"

I propose a change to the symbolism that is portrayed in the elephant and the inverted stars. The GOP’s stars weren’t always upside down? When did the "change" occur? The upside down stars could be associated with The Order of the Eastern Star or a pentagram.

I request that the mascot be changed to a Lion, and the "True" stars replace those that were inverted. And to be consistent with the US Flag, the color blue should be added.

Created by the People, for the People.

I can only assume that Abraham Lincoln, the First Republican, would want the People to decide what should be a representation of color in a mascot.
